Litfaßsäule at Hackescher Markt

This art commission was part of the initiative litfassgoesurbanart.de, which “occupies” a number of Berlin’s historic and heritage-protected advertising columns, turning them into spaces for urban art rather than advertising.

My work consists of two parts. The top section shows a selection of characters that represent the magic of Berlin to me: freethinking, colorful individuals walking around town.

The lower part shows the greedy hands of the investors currently buying up properties in Berlin, raising rents and doing what they can to extinguish the spark of this city.

The top part is larger and much more visible, representing my hope that the joy and creativity of the people who have made Berlin what it is will prevail.
